The main event for Aldo vs Holloway is Jose Aldo versus Max Holloway for the UFC featherweight championship. The match-up pits Aldo, the most dominant featherweight in ZUFFA history, against a man whose 10 fight winning streak might be the most impressive run ever witnessed in the UFC. Will Aldo continue to prove his place among the all-time greats or will Holloway surpass him and show that he alone deserves to reign atop the division.

Aldo vs Holloway is set from Brazil. All the fighters set to enter the Octagon on Saturday made weight on Friday morning for their bouts, making the fight card from Rio de Janeiro official.

UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is set to defend his title for the first time since being installed as the full-time champ (again) and will take on a young and hungry foe in interim champ Max Holloway.

Title Fights – 1

Aldo’s title is the only real championship that will be on the line. This will be Aldo’s ninth defense of the title as the UFC belt, and his 11th overall since he won the WEC title over Mike Brown in November 2009. Aldo lost the title when he was knocked out in 13 seconds by Conor McGregor, but later regained the title when it was stripped from The Notorious One.

The title was later promoted to the UFC crown in October 2010 when the WEC merged with the UFC.

Ranked Fighters – 8

The Aldo vs Holloway card is lacking major names and influencers, but there are a good number of ranked fighters in action.

Holloway is the No. 1 contender and interim champ at 145 pounds. Claudia Gadelha is trying to maintain her No. 1 ranking at strawweight against No. 2 Karolina Kowalkiewicz. If the latter wins, she could be next in line for Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Gadelha has already had two cracks at Joanna Champion, so a win may not result in an immediate third fight.

Somehow, Vitor Belfort is still ranked 11th in the UFC. He has said this is his last fight with the promotion, but he may not be retiring. Look for him to potentially land with Bellator before the end of the year.
